A 38-year-old Alpena man was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual assault crimes involving a minor.
Johnathan Allen Beatty was arraigned Thursday in 88th District Court in Alpena County and he faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree-victim under 13 years old, one count of accosting children for immoral purposes, two counts possession firearm by a felon, and one count of possession of ammunition by felon. His bond was set at $250,000 cash surety.
In a press release issued Thursday by the Michigan State Police, it says police were contacted about abuse in January after the victim disclosed to her mother she had been sexually abused between January 2017 and July 2018.
During the investigation, detectives and troopers from the MSP Alpena Post conducted a search warrant at Beatty's residence. During the search warrant, they discovered Beatty was in possession of firearms and ammunition. Beatty is a convicted felon, according to the release, and is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition. A report was submitted to the Alpena County Prosecutor's Office and an arrest warrant was authorized on Monday.
Beatty returns to court on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
