Alcona County awarded grant to upgrade housing

Alcona County was awarded $75,000 on Tuesday as part of $1.7 million awarded by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer through the Neighborhood Enhancement Program.

The grants, awarded to 33 local governments and non-profit groups, are to be used for home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades to lower costs for homeowners.

According to a press release, grantee demonstrated a level of need in their communities and proposed projects that will make a significant difference in the community.

Residents of the communities can expect to see neighborhood improvements as early as this summer and fall as projects funded by the grants should be complete by Dec. 31, 2022.
