Alpena's north side will soon be safer from fires, thanks to a door-to-door smoke alarm distribution.
Between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, American Red Cross volunteers and members of the Alpena Fire Department will knock on doors north of the Thunder Bay River, volunteering to install free smoke alarms and help families create home escape plans.
Residents can learn more about the smoke alarm event by calling the American Red Cross at 989-448-2627 or the Alpena Fire Department at 989-354-1859.
