Click your belt
ALPENA — Police officers are on the lookout for motorists without seat belts during the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning’s annual Click It or Ticket campaign.
The seat belt enforcement campaign, which began today and runs through Memorial Day weekend, helps prevent deaths like the 228 people killed in Michigan traffic crashes in 2020 who were not wearing seat belts, the state office said in a news release.
Michigan law requires drivers, front-seat passengers, and passengers 15 and younger in any seating position to wear seatbelts. Children must be in a car seat or booster seat until they are 8 years old or 4 feet, 9 inches tall. Children under 4 must ride in the back seat.
