WITH VIDEO: Car crashes into store in Alpena
ALPENA — A driver was unhurt after her vehicle crashed into the Alpena West EZ Mart building at the intersection of Bagley Street and M-32 in Alpena around noon today.
Police believe the driver was preparing to park in a parking space facing the building when her foot hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.
Scott Datema, branch manager in charge of maintenance for the business, said store management closed the business temporarily while workers checked the structural integrity of the building.
No employees were hurt when the vehicle struck the building, Datema said. Some display shelving inside the building was displaced by the crash, which pushed in a portion of the decorative stonework on the building’s exterior and broke multiple panes of a window.
Paramedics checked the driver, who did not have any injuries that required treatment, police said.
