Relentless offense helps Alpena top Oscoda

ALPENA -- The Alpena High School girls soccer team got the better of Oscoda in a 4-0 victory on Thursday after allowing zero shots on goal the entire game and pushing their overall record to 4-1.
Alpena got off to a slow start until Reese Wisniewski started a spark for the Wildcats' offense, scoring the first goal of the game with 3:25 left to play in the first half.
Kami Schultz helped assist that goal, putting it in the perfect position for Wisniewski to kick it through the net.
Although the Wildcats put on a solid performance on both offense and defense, there were still a few things Alpena coach Gregg Supiran thought the team could improve on or could have done better.
"Looking at the shots on net we left a lot of those goals on the field, we were playing a little slow, and we probably could have finished more," Supiran said.
Once the Wildcats had the momentum, they couldn't be stopped. Alpena continued to put the pressure on Oscoda, forcing almost 30 shots on the net and scored three goals in the second half.
Jenna Leeck was a substantial contributor to that and was the star for the Alpena offense Thursday, scoring a pair of goals from deep. The first goal was unassisted with 34:26 left to play in the second half. Her second goal of the night was assisted by Lilly Domke after Leeck struck it into the net.
"She scored two of the goals tonight from distance which is what we've been working on with her and that's a good confidence booster going into next week," Supiran said.
The last goal on Thursday came from Schultz with 10:10 left in the game after another assist from Domke.
Defense was a big reason for Alpena's dominance on Thursday and Alpena's defensive efforts were led by Isabelle Kocan, Faith Dragiewicz, and Eve Dragiewicz.
"They handled the pressure pretty well and I'm pretty pleased with the performance from all of them," Supiran said. He hopes for his defense to continue to play this way and to roll with the momentum into the next game.
The Wildcats' next matchup against Boyne City on Monday will be a challenging one, according to Supiran.
"Our next opponent is going to be a tough team they're always really good and they are always very competitive with us so hopefully we learned some things tonight that will help us get ready to play them," he said.
