ALPENA — Residents were out of town when a fire destroyed their two-story house on Mable Road in Maple Ridge Township in the early hours of Friday morning.

Two dogs died in the fire, according to Maple Ridge Fire Department Chief Jim Price.

Firefighters do not know what caused the fire, which a neighbor called in to 911 at about 4 a.m. on Friday.

The structure was fully involved and a complete loss by the time firefighters arrived, Price said.

Long Rapids Fire Department, the Alpena Township Fire Department, and Michigan State Police troopers also responded to the fire.
