ALPENA — The Michigan State Police-Alpena Post got a nod this week from Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and Special Olympics Michigan for its community-mindedness.

The post raised $25,000 in 2021 for Michigan Special Olympics, earning them the organization’s Emerald Award.

Capt. Jennifer Johnson, Michigan State Police 7th District commander and a longtime supporter of and participant in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, received the award on behalf of the Alpena post at a 2022 torch run kickoff event near Traverse City on Thursday.
