A 42-year old man was killed and an 81-year old woman admitted to the hospital after the Jeep they were in collided with a wrecker that was parked on the edge of Ford Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The man and woman were News carriers delivering the newspaper.

The wrecker was unoccupied.

In a press release Saturday, Alpena police say they were dispatched to the scene on Ford Avenue, near Herman Street, and found the man critically injured from the wreck. He was transported to the MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, where he later died..

The woman, who was driving the vehicle, suffered significant injuries and is currently being treated at the hospital, police say.

The Alpena police were assisted by the Alpena Sheriff’s Department who provided accident reconstruction and victim advocate services.

The incident remains under investigation.
