ALPENA — Residents noticing large airplanes over Alpena may have spied transport aircraft from the 60th Air Mobility Wing, Travis Air Force Base, California.

A “sizable force” of airmen are training at Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, according to the wing’s Facebook page.

The training tests airmen’s ability to mobilize effectively for tasks from carrying 2,000-pound bombs to delivering medical aid or transporting wounded soldiers.
