A sewer backup on Wednesday near Long Rapids Plaza caused about 100 gallons of sewage to spill along the edge of the street. Utility contractor Suez reported the incident to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, it said in a press release on Thursday.

Suez said the blockage in the sewer system occurred between a pair of manholes, and the waste backed up for about a half an hour. The land impacted was the gravel shoulder of the road, according to the release.
