An Onaway couple has been charged in the death of its three-month old child. A press release from the Cheboygan Sheriff's Department stated that Justin Stewart Bond, 22, and Deana Brooks Bond, 21, were arrested and charged with one count of child abuse 2nd degree and one count each of involuntary manslaughter, carrying a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
Both have been arraigned and are currently lodged on $75,000 cash or surety bond. Their next court appearance is March 24.
According to the press release, the sheriff's department investigated a child death on the morning of March 14 when an ambulance call was dispatched through 911 to a residence in Forest Township for a three-month old baby not breathing.The baby was transported to McLaren Cheboygan Campus and pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed and the investigation led to the arrest of the parents of the baby on March 18.
It is alleged that sometime during the days prior while the baby was in the care of its parents the baby suffered serious physical harm which led to its death. It is also alleged the parents did not provide the necessary medical treatment to the child after injury.
