Grant to steer teens toward manufacturing careers

ALPENA ― Teens in Alpena could get better connected to the manufacturing industry thanks to a grant awarded last month to Alpena High School, an Alpena Public Schools representative announced on Tuesday.

AHS was among 16 schools in the state chosen to receive the grant from the SME Education Foundation, representing a nonprofit organization serving the manufacturing industry. The $6 million total awarded will be spread among all participants.

The grant will fund camps and other activities targeting young high school students, exposing them to careers in manufacturing and engineering, APS spokesman Lee Fitzpatrick said.
