ALPENA — Cooper Bright’s stellar season didn’t go unnoticed.

After a season in which he held per game averages of 23.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and seven assists, Bright was named Co-Player of the Year in the Big North Conference. Bright shared the honor with Cadillac’s Cole Jarema.

Bright was one of three Alpena players honored by the Big North on Wednesday. Mason Mumford and Ryan Voltz both earned honorable mentions.

“We had an excellent season and part of that success means individual players earn recognition for their accomplishments. I am proud to see our players recognized for their hard work and dedication,” Alpena coach John Pintar said. “Cooper had a fantastic season, leading the conference in scoring at 24.3 points per game. He also set a school record for assists in a season with 155. He had a standout senior season and is very deserving of the Co-MVP Award. Ryan and Mason were great leaders and did an excellent job defending and scoring in the low post. All three seniors are very deserving of this recognition.”

Two Alpena wrestlers were also honored by the Big North after standout seasons. Mason Bray earned shared first team honors in the 171-pound weight class with Gaylord’s Kaeden Yocum and Alpena’s Gunner Spencer earned a first-team nod in the heavyweight class.

Bray made a second straight trip to the state finals after finishing fourth at regionals.
