HILLMAN – The Hillman baseball program has produced its fair share of standouts in its rich history.

On Thursday, one of their current standouts made the decision to take his talents to the next level.

in front of family, friends, teammates, teachers and coaches, Aden Sobeck signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Bay College.

“It really meant a lot to have everyone with me during this special moment and to know I have so many people behind me,” Sobeck said. “It’s special and I couldn’t have done this without them. I fell in love with the campus and the small-town feel. It felt a lot like Hillman, and going to Bay just felt like the perfect fit for me.”

Sobeck is a four-year starter for the Hillman baseball program and came at a time when the program graduated several key players at key positions, including catcher.

Sobeck made the transition much easier for head coach Rick Firman and the Tigers, as he provided a consistent presence behind the dish.

“This is why you coach, to build relationships and impact lives, and you see a kid that has his dream come true and gets the opportunity to play college baseball, it’s a great day,” Firman said. “Having Aden was a shot in the arm for our program after we graduated a four-year starting catcher. It’s one of the most important positions on the field and Aden is a good player, smart kid, high baseball IQ, strong work ethic, and really made my job easier with his ability.”

Along with his ability to catch, Sobeck’s ability on the mound stood out to the Bay coaching staff, along with his versatility to play multiple positions.

Sobeck hopes to see time on the mound and give the Norse plenty of freedom to use him wherever they feel gives them and him the best chance to be successful.

“My goal is just going to continue working hard, and, hopefully, I’ll be able to work my way into the starting lineup, whether it’s pitching or somewhere in the field,” Sobeck said. “It’s a huge day and was so special that everyone could be here as I fulfill a lifelong dream of playing college baseball.”
