Police take impaired drivers off Michigan roads
ALPENA — In an effort to curb the number of Michiganders dying because of drunk driving, police arrested 140 impaired drivers during the last two weeks of 2021 as part of the annual Michigan State Police Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign.
Officers statewide made 4,000 traffic stops, arrested 127 drunk drivers and 13 drivers under the influence of drugs, and issued 900 speeding citations between Dec. 17 and Jan. 1, reporting an “alarming” number of vehicles speeding well above the posted speed limit, an MSP news release said.
Officers also made 400 felony and misdemeanor arrests during the enforcement period, when police agencies statewide increased the number of patrol officers on the road to watch for driving safety violations.
