Local government roundup: Alpena Municipal Council postpones decision on consolidating election polling locations

On Feb. 7 the Alpena Municipal Council…

∫ Voted 4-1 to postpone a decision on consolidating the election polling locations, until the March 21 meeting.

∫ Voted 4-0 to receive and file the Thunder Bay River Center Project update that was presented to the council.

∫ Anne Gentry, executive director of the Alpena Downtown Development Authority, presented an update of the project to expand the boundaries of the DDA.

∫ Voted 4-0 to appoint Director of Planning, Development & Zoning Montiel Birmingham as the signatory for the Rural Business Enterprise Grant application.

LINCOLN

At its meeting on Feb. 7, the Lincoln Village Council…..

∫ The council discussed how best to utilize its funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. They would like to use the funds towards helping purchasing more self-contained breathing apparatuses for the fire department. The council also chose the standard allowance for revenue loss in regards to the ARPA funds.

∫ Rob Clink and Erin Mahalak addressed the Council regarding the changes to Little League Baseball for Alcona County. They are now working with 4H to get the project moving forward. They would like permission to use the ballfields in the village. Council voted to allow Michigan State 4-H to use the ballfields in the village from April through August. A letter of agreement will be presented at the next meeting.

∫ A letter was presented to the council from Warren MacNeill that stated he intends to step down from his position as the maintenance man for the village on May 1. Council voted to advertise for applicants to fill the position.
