∫ At its Jan. 18 meeting the Alpena Municipal Council voted to receive and file the semi-annual report from Target Alpena Executive Director Mike Mahler.

∫ At its meeting on Feb. 8, the Alpena Township Board of Trustees heard from attorney Tim Gulden informed the Township Board that the Federal Emergency Management Agency had completed the new Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Alpena County that are scheduled to go into effect June 1. As a member of the National Flood Insurance Program), the Township must have an ordinance that properly adopts the new maps effective prior to June 1.. Moved by Trustee Norm Poli and supported by Trustee Steve Lappan to adopt Ordinance No. 149 to meet the required action prior to the deadline.
The trustees voted to authorize the settling of a tax tribunal case of Meijer, Inc. and. the Charter Township of Alpena. The deal reduces the 2021 assessed and taxable value of the Meijer property to the sum of $3.4 million for assessed and taxable value with the company agreeing not to dispute the 2022 values set by the township.
Mac McClelland, executive director of the Alpena Township Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, presented the board with a resolution to establish a public hearing for the Alpena Retail North Brownfield Plan. The development pertains to the Alpena Public School bus garage, where a proposed Meijer could be built.
Assessor Kris Lewis presented the board a request from a property owner to name the Chip & Dale Easement as a road. The trustees discussed a pair of names and decided to call it Chip & Dale Road.
Supervisor Nathan Skibbe recommended the reappointments of Tom Hilberg and Larry Dehring to the Planning Commission.
Catherine Winn informed the board of a leak that was repaired on the M-32 water tower and that a drained inspection of the water tower was needed. Ms. Winn presented a proposal from Dixon Engineering & Inspection Services and the board approved the bid not to exceed $5,000.
∫ At its Jan. 28 meeting, the Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners received an economic update from Target Alpena Executive Director Mike Mahler.
The board also extended an agreement between the county and the Emmet County Department of Public works for six months for recycling processing. The deal will end on June 30.
The board approved the purchase of a scanner, hardware, and software for the 89th District Court from Cherry Lan in the amount of $15,203, with the money coming from the Drunk Driving Fund.
County Emergency Coordinator Sarah Melching also reported on school safety and funds for an emergency command center for the county.
