APlex hosting Home Expo

ALPENA — Homeowners, potential homeowners, and anyone looking to upgrade or start any indoor or outdoor home projects will be pleased that the APlex is hosting a Home Expo on Saturday, March 12.

The expo will feature more than 20 vendors, with more welcome to register, as space is still available, according to APlex Events Coordinator Elaine Sommerfeld.

She said there had been a home show in town years ago, “and we’re trying to bring that back for the community.”

Doors will open at 9 a.m. and the show will run until 3 p.m., Sommerfeld said.

“We have vendors from the community coming in,” she said. “We’re always looking for more vendors.”

She noted that the event is sponsored by Northland Area Federal Credit Union.

“They’ve been a great partner in helping bring that back, and helping promote the different businesses in the area,” Sommerfeld said.

Types of vendors will include home financing, home insurance, lawncare services, home improvement companies, construction contractors, and more.

There will even be more specialized businesses, such as Frank’s Key and Lock Shop and a dock company, “for those who live out on our beautiful lakes,” Sommerfeld said. “There’s going to be a wide variety, actually.”

She even said some home gaming system experts will be at the show.

Basically, resources pertaining to anything related to your home or yard, including improvements or just maintenance, will be offered at the home expo.

She added that a Realtor will also be at the show for anyone looking into buying or selling a home.

They have been planning the show for about nine months, and they thought right before spring would be the perfect time to have it.

“A lot of times, in Northern Michigan, we’re homebound, with the weather, and you sit there and look around, and think, ‘Well, gee, I’d like to redo my cabinets,’ or ‘I’d like to redo my doors,’ and then, it’s easier to be able to just one-stop shop, and that was our goal,” Sommerfeld said.

She added that the whole reason they are doing the show is to provide a service to the community, while helping local businesses get more exposure.

“It’s free to the community,” she said. “There’s no gate fee for them to come in and look around.”

Concessions will be available, she added.

Door prize giveaways will also be featured.

“It’ll be a fun day,” she said.

She noted again that more vendors are welcome.

“I’ll take vendors up until the very last week,” she said. “As long as they’re interested and they want to be here, I’ll find a spot for them.”

“We just want to see it grow, from year to year, and become an annual event.”
