ALPENA – An elementary school student in Alpena was removed from a school bus on Friday after he was caught in possession of a knife and vandalizing a seat with it.

Upon discovery of the knife, the student handed the knife over without incident and it was turned over to administrators at Ella White Elementary School, according to an Alpena Public Schools press release on Friday.

The child was removed from the bus and from school, pending further review.

No threats or injuries were made to other riders that were reported, the press release from the district said. Law enforcement officers were immediately involved in the investigation of the incident, the release said.

Parents and caregivers are urged to remind their students of the importance of not bringing any item from home that might be dangerous or perceived as a threat to others.
