Alpena Gymnastics competes in Winter Classic meet

Alpena Gymnastics traveled to Lowell High School to compete in the RAYG Winter Classic Meet on Jan. 16. Competing along with Alpena were Red Arrow Youth Gymnastics, Flip Star Gymnastics, Tri-City Gymnastics, and High Flyers Gymnastics.

There were three different groups that competed; Xcel Diamond, Platinum, Gold, and Silver.

Competing at the Xcel Platinum level were Grace Samp, Savanna Spangle, and Faith Dragiewicz. Grace earned the following places on each event; vault (2nd place), bars (1st place), beam (2nd place), floor (1st place), and all-around (2nd place). Savanna earned; vault (3rd place), bars (3rd place), beam (3rd place), floor (2nd place), and all-around (3rd place). Faith earned; (4th place) on vault, bars, beam, floor, and all-around.

Competing at the Xcel Gold level was Callie Brousseau, Lola Halleck, Alliyah Hagemeister, Annabelle Lacross, Ezra Peterson, and Cece Weaver. Callie earned (2nd place) on floor and (1st place) on the bars, beam and all-around. Lola earned the following places; vault and floor (1st place), bars (3rd place), and all-around (2nd place). Alliyah earned; bars and floor (1st place), vault (2nd place), and all-around (3rd place). Annabelle earned; beam (2nd place) and (4th place) on vault, bars, and all-around. Ezra earned: (3rd place) on vault and floor, and (2nd place) on beam and all-around. Cece earned; )2nd place) on vault and bars, and (3rd place) in the all-around.

Competing at the Xcel Silver level is Emma Armstead, and Cailyn Burrone. Emma earned (1st place) on beam, (2nd place) on bars and floor, and (3rd place) all-around. Cailyn earned (3rd place) on vault, and (5th place) in the all-around.

Alpena’s Xcel Gold team won first place honors out of the other three teams that competed. The Xcel Platinum team placed third.
