ROGERS CITY -- Plungers brave a seven-degree wind chill and frigid waters for a good cause at the Rogers City Marina on New Year's Day. A polar plunge organized by Rogers City Mayor Scott McLennan raised more than $1,600 for a Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan fund supporting Kenya REAL, a volunteer effort providing education and meals to children living in poverty in Kenya. McLennan is coordinating a spring trip to Kenya to assist with a walk-in medical clinic. "It's all about the kids," said plunger Kim Margherio as she prepared to enter the ice-crusted water. "Because it's important to care about others and just start being a community. Reach out, right?"
