Local school board roundup: Alcona Community Schools Board of Education rates superintendent highly effective

Recent actions by school boards in Northeast Michigan:

∫ The Alcona Community School Board of Education evaluated Dan O’Connor in a closed meeting on Dec 13 and unanimously decided that he has been highly effective in the 2021 school year.

The board approved a tenure for kindergarten teacher Keturah Dellar.

The board revised several policies in a second reading and approved Straley, Lamp and Kraenzlein, P.C. to handle the district’s payroll services.

The district approved the revision of several policies in a second reading.

∫ The Onaway Area Community Schools announced it had to quarantine a second-grade class at a district board meeting on Dec. 14.

Rick Price was approved as varsity baseball coach and Steve Klinge was approved as varsity softball coach.

The district approved a course catalog for the 2022 school year.

Miller and Levine Biology, Welsh and Hole’s Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Amplify Science were the texts approved by the board for use in secondary science courses.

∫ The Posen Consolidated School District Board of Education, on Jan. 10, approved holding its regular meetings on the second Monday of each month.

The district held its election of officers and the following officers were elected: Andrew Stone, president; Brian Konieczny, vice-president; Danielle Kowalski, secretary; Anna Soik, treasurer; Lucia Bruski, assistant secretary, assistant treasurer; Michelle Wesner, assistant secretary, assistant treasurer.

The district used two snow days out of six that can be forgiven.

Presque Isle Newspaper, Inc. was designated to be the newspaper for publications of school announcements.

Thrun Law Firm was approved to be legal console for the district in the 2022 calendar year.

Bills were approved for the month of December, totaling $140,467.35.

No students have been found positive for COVID-19 recently, but tests are available when needed.

The board accepted Thrun Law Firm’s policies to replace their existing policies, by-laws and administrative guidelines.
