The National Weather Service is warning residents of dangerously cold weather that is expected to move into the area today and linger until early Thursday morning.
With the wind, temperatures are expected to drop more than 10 degrees below zero.
The advisory says accumulating lake effect snow will continue across parts of the area through tonight and colder air moves in as well. Wind chills will approach dangerous levels in eastern upper Michigan late. Cold temperatures and ice development on rivers and streams may result in ice jams and localized flooding.
Temperatures overnight are expected to drop to about -3 with wind chills pushing the temperatures much lower. On Wednesday, temperatures are predicted to be about -9 before windchill is factored in.
Things begin to warm up Thursday when temperatures are expected to jump into the upper 20s, but strong winds may push wind chills down once more.
