Conservation officers wanted

ALPENA — Those interested in protecting the state’s woods, parks, wildlife, and outdoor recreation activities have until Feb. 28 to apply for the state’s 2022 conservation officer academies.

Some candidates accepted to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ conservation officer training programs will be eligible to train on an in-service basis, working as state employees and receiving paychecks and benefits.

Candidates for the law enforcement position do not need previous law enforcement or fishing and hunting experience or a college education to become a conservation officer.
