Alpena hospital tower on schedule for spring opening

ALPENA -- MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena officials announced Thursday that the new 99,000-square-foot patient tower is on schedule for a spring opening.
The external portion of construction is now complete, officials say, and the internal finishing work is underway. The project broke ground in July 2020 and hospital officials expect a grand opening in late April.
The $63.5 million expansion includes the three-story tower that will house 60 private patient rooms, including eight intensive care beds, eight labor and delivery rooms, and 44 medical/surgical beds, according to a hospital press release.
"When driving onto the medical center campus, there is something so very special about seeing the patient tower coming to completion," MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena President Chuck Sherwin said in the hospital press release. "You immediately are reminded of the hundreds of people involved, not just in the build of the tower itself, but the outpouring of support shown by our employees, our donors, and the community day in and day out."
