Alpena High School Athletic Wall of Fame to induct 5 new members

ALPENA - The Alpena High School Athletic Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place Friday, Feb. 4, during halftime of the Alpena boys varsity basketball game against Cadillac.
The 2022 class is made up of five members who enjoyed tremendous success during their time as Wildcats and, for some, continued success at the collegiate level.
Coach Bill Romstadt, Josh Sylvester, Tyler Pintar, Ami Milligan, and Jordan Ferguson will be honored and recognized for their outstanding athletic careers and have their names enshrined outside of the Alpena High School gymnasium on the Athletic Wall of Fame.
The inductees are as follows:
BILL ROMSTADT
Bill Romstadt served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1962 (12th Marines) (3rd Marine Division – Active and Reserve Duty). In 1953, Romstadt received football and baseball scholarships at Findlay University and in 1981 was elected into the Clay High School Sports Hall of Fame (Cardinal Stritch High School).
In 1985, Romstadt earned the Jesse Besser Outstanding Educator Award and in 1992 was named Central Michigan University Outstanding Teacher award winner. He spent 50 years as an umpire and referee for baseball and basketball and in 2007 received State of Michigan Officials Association Fifty Years of Service recognition.
Romstadt was elected to the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. He coached football from 1967-1980 and basketball from 1967-1987. In 2021, the Bill Romstadt Boys and Girls Club Scholarship Award was established.
JOSH SYLVESTER — Class of 1997
Sylvester was a four-year letterman for the Alpena hockey team from 1994-1997. He was named Rookie of the Year during the 1994-1995 season.
Sylvester earned first team All-Conference (Great North Hockey Conference) during his junior and senior seasons (1995-1996, 1996-1997). He also earned GNHC Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Dream Team for his work between the pipes as Alpena's goalie during his senior year.
Sylvester was an Academic All-State athlete and earned All-State honorable mention his senior year, while being named the William Denstaedt Memorial Award Winner in 1997.
Sylvester was a member of Alpena's Final Four hockey team during the 1996-97 season and was selected to Team Michigan in 1997.
Sylvester was also a two-year letterman for the Alpena golf team in 1995 and 1996 and was a two-year member of the Alpena Community College golf team in 1998 and 1999. While at ACC, he earned Academic All-Conference, All-State and All-American National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) honors in 1999.
TYLER PINTAR — Class of 2015
Tyler Pintar earned nine varsity letters during his Wildcat career, basketball (4), baseball (3), football (2). It was his work on the hardwood that cemented Pintar as one of Alpena's all-time greats.
Pintar was first-team All-Big North Conference in basketball during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. In 2015, Pintar was the Big North Conference MVP. He earned Academic All-State honors in 2014 and 2015 and was named to the 2015 BCAM All-State first team for his work on the court. Pintar was also named to the third team All-State Class A Detroit Free Press basketball team.
In 2015, Pintar was the Vic Knowlton Male Athlete of the Year at Alpena High. He was the 2015 Alpena News Co-Player of the Year.
Pintar also earned first-team All-Conference and All-District honors for baseball and in 2014 was selected to the Reaching Higher basketball showcase for top underclassmen.
Pintar was the third player in school history to score 1,000 career points and holds a pair of school records for most career three-pointers (134) and career steals (238).
AMI MILLIGAN — Class of 2013
Ami Milligan was a two-time first-team All-BNC, two-time All-Region, and All-Region Dream Team standout on the volleyball court. Milligan is the Alpena High record holder for average assists per game.
Milligan played at Albion College where she excelled on the court and cemented her name as one of the top Briton volleyball players in program history. Milligan was a four-year letter winner at Albion and was named first-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in 2016.
Milligan was a three-time MIAA Player of the Week and once earned AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. Milligan is Albion’s all-time assist leader (2017-2021).
JORDAN FERGUSON — Class of 2015
Jordan Ferguson was one of the top running backs in Alpena football history. Ferguson was a first-team All-BNC running back in 2013 and 2014. In 2014, Ferguson was honorable mention All-State as a running back as he set the single-season rushing record during his senior season in 2014.
His efforts during his senior year earned him 2014 Offensive and Team MVP awards and 2014 Alpena News Player of the Year.
Ferguson went on to play football at Michigan Tech and, in 2017, he was named Michigan Tech’s Freshman Player of the Year. Ferguson was also an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention during the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Ferguson was just recently named Michigan Tech Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2021.
