OSSINEKE — Social media posts led police to arrest an Ossineke man for allegedly advertising a stolen ATV for sale, police said in a news release on Wednesday.
A Maple Ridge Township man told police on Dec. 5 that someone had stolen his ATV. Troopers spoke to neighbors but found nothing suspicious, police said.
Later that day, the victim told police someone had responded to a social media post he’d made, reporting seeing the missing ATV for sale on another social media post.
Police arrested Austin Meese, 19, after they interviewed Meese and found the ATV — now spray-painted black — hidden at a nearby residence. According to police, Meese had posted the ATV for sale online.
Meese was charged with breaking and entering and unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle. He was lodged in the Alpena County Jail and given a 10%, $100,000 bond.
