Local school board roundup: Alpena Public Schools Board of Education approves hiring 15 new employees

Recent actions by school boards in Northeast Michigan:

∫ The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education approved hiring 15 new employees, including four professional staff and 11 support staff after completion of proper human resource requirements at the last regular board meeting on Nov. 22. The board also approved 11 policy updates although the vote was not unanimous.

∫ At a special meeting on Nov. 22, the Hillman Community Schools Board of Education approved scope of work. Floor plans were explored and reviewed.

The board approved hiring Crystal Vogt as interim elementary school principal and Carrie Sobeck as student success coach.

The resignation of Jennifer Taratuta as varsity girl’s basketball coach was also approved and discussions of her role as junior high basketball coach will be clarified at the next scheduled meeting.

The board approved John Kuzewski as the new varsity basketball coach.

∫ The Alpena-Montmorency- Alcona Educational Service District saw a presentation on Pied Piper School from Principal Larry Johns on Thursday.

The board also recognized retirees and approved an update to board policy.
