Alpena Public Schools are aware of rumors and threats made on the video sharing platform Tik Tok that deem Dec. 17, as “National Shoot up your School Day.”
The videos encourage students to take guns, bombs, and other weapons to school and commit violent acts. The threats appear to be an attempt to cause school closures.
Law enforcement have not identified any credible videos or threats connection to APS, a message that was sent out to parents.
However, local police will have an increased presence throughout the school district today as extra precaution.
APS administration is in contact with Alpena Police Department and Michigan State Police who are monitoring the situation.
Police will continue to monitor the situation and ask students to report any potentially dangerous activity that they observe.
