ALPENA -- Santa Claus is relying on Pied Piper School and its merry band of students to make Christmas presents for people in Northeast Michigan.
The handmade arts and crafts, decorations, and knick-knacks will be available for people to purchase during holiday sales at the school in Alpena.
The proceeds remain with the school and help pay for more tools and equipment for future projects.

The school's Thanksgiving sale is on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and an after-hours sale runs from 5-6 p.m. the same day.
The Christmas sale runs from Dec. 1-3 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and an additional few hours on Dec. 3 from 5-7 p.m.
On Thursday, the students were busy painting Christmas ornaments and tying string to them so they can easily be hung on Christmas trees. Each decoration proudly displayed the school logo and nickname, the Falcons.
Paraprofessional Rachel Wetherhult said the work on the holiday-themed items began shortly after school started and the students are still working hard to make sure there is enough for all of the people who will be doing Christmas shopping in the coming weeks.
She said the closer Thanksgiving and Christmas inch, the more excitement and holiday cheer the students show.

Wetherhult said the students can't wait to work the Christmas sale and sell the products they worked hard to complete and are excited to visit with members of the community.
"Everyone is super excited and they can't wait to run the cash register," she said. "To see how excited they are to show-off what they have been working on is just amazing."
The holidays are called the season of giving, but Wetherhult said the residents in the area are supportive of the school, its staff, and most importantly the students all year. She said the community always comes forward to make sure the holiday sales and other fundraising events are successful.
"Oh my gosh," Wetherhult said. "It is incredible how much support we receive from our community. Everyone always does a great job of coming out and helping the kids and the school. It is wonderful."
