ALPENA -- A driver joined a crowd of pole-crashers when she ran into a stop sign in the Alpena Walmart parking lot around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Responders transported the woman to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena for evaluation after she misjudged a corner and crashed into the pole, damaging the front end of her car and bending the pole.
At least a dozen people have crashed into the pole near the store's garden center, including a van that wrapped around the pole and a Camaro that climbed it nearly vertically, according to tow truck operator Kevin Miller, who responded to the crash.
