Driver escapes serious injury from Thanksgiving tree crash
ALPENA — A driver who took a curve too quickly collided with a tree, sustaining minor injuries to herself and substantial damage to her vehicle, according to police.
The driver, a woman visiting from out of town for the holiday, was driving too fast for the day’s snowy conditions and lost control while rounding the curve on 11th Avenue near Elizabeth Street in Alpena. She left the road and ended up on the adjacent grass, nose of her car crushed against a tree.
Airbags protected the driver, who sustained minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital. Paramedics also checked a passenger in the car, who was uninjured, police said.
