ALPENA — Downed lines blocked U.S.-23 North between Hamilton Road and Bloom Road for several hours early Tuesday afternoon after a dump truck with its dump box not fully lowered caught on the wires. The tension on the wires snapped two poles and blew a fuse on a transformer, causing 68 nearby residents to lose power, according to Ken Dragiewicz, president of Alpena Power Company, which responded to the incident. The downed lines broke one power pole and one telephone pole and draped a communications cable across the road, Dragiewicz said. Responders diverted traffic on U.S.-23 while utility workers cleared the road, which police reopened to traffic around 3 p.m.
