Alpena Lions hear from Marceau about Smart911

Andy Marceau talks to the Alpena Lions Club on Tuesday.

The Alpena Lions Club met at the 1st United Congregational Church of Christ on Tuesday. The group enjoyed a delicious lunch of Piggy Mac provided by ChezAmi.

The guest speaker was Andy Marceau of the Alpena Fire Department. The topic of his address, “Smart 911,” was described as an app that provides 911 emergency responders with pertinent life-saving information that may be important in an emergency. The information is provided by each individual of a household based on a questionnaire passed out by the Alpena Fire Department and Smart911.

The information provided by you, gives details of your location, contact information, medical history and emergency contact information. The information allows emergency responders to anticipate what they may encounter when you dial 911. Every individual within Alpena County is able to use this app — to date over 1,000 residents have.

Lions Andy Lamp and Gary Stevens provided an update of the ongoing potato sales fundraiser. The Alpena Lions have sold over 500 bags of russet potatoes, supplied by Styma Potato Farms, which are to be distributed on Dec. 3 and 4.
