ALPENA — More than two years after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the Alpena AAU competitive gymnastics team is in action and competing again. Alpena hosted the fifth annual Pure North Classic Gymnastics tournament on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021. The team now consists of 20 competitors at three different AAU levels.

Competing at the Xcel Silver level is Emma Armstead, Cailyn Burrone, Emily Parsons, Abigail Reinhart, Libby Misiak, Emmi Ruby, and Clare LaCross. This was their very first sanctioned, competitive meet.

Competing at the Xcel Gold level was Callie Brousseau, Lindsay Donajkowski (adult division), Faith Dragiewicz, Lola Halleck, Paige Samp, Savanna Spangle, Alliyah Hagemeister, Annabelle Lacross, Ezra Peterson, and Cece Weaver.

Competing at the Xcel Platinum level were Brooke Smith and Grace Samp.

The teams that joined them for competition were High Flyers Gymnastics Team out of Howell, and Flip Stars Gymnastics Team out of Ludington. There were a total of 37 competitors. Placing 1st-3rd, in their age divisions, are the following gymnasts from Alpena: Xcel Silver – Emma (beam, 2nd place 9.20, floor, 3rd place 8.80 & all-around, 3rd place 34.80), Emmi (vault, 2nd place 8.50 & floor, 2nd place 9.00), Abby (vault, 3rd place), Emalee (vault, 2nd place 8.50), Clare (bars, 2nd place 8,95, floor, 3rd place 8.80 & all-around, 2nd place 34.85), Libby (bars, 3rd place 8.70 & beam, 1st place 9.30), and Cailyn (vault, 1st place 8.70).

Xcel Gold division 1 – Ezra (beam, 3rd place 8.90), Alliyah (vault, 2nd place 8.90, beam, 2nd place 9.20, floor, 2nd place 9.30 & all-around, 3rd place 35.15), and Paige (vault, 1st place 9.00, bars, 3rd place 8.60, beam, 1st place 9.40, floor, 3rd place 9.20 & all-around, 1st place 36.20).

Xcel Gold division 2 – Annabelle (vault, 1st place 9.10), Cece (vault, 1st place 9.10), Lola (beam, 2nd place 9.40), Savanna (vault, 6th place 8.50), Faith (vault, 3rd place 9.00, bars, 3rd place 9.00, floor, 3rd place 9.40 & all-around, 3rd place 36.40), and Callie (beam, 1st place 9.20).

Xcel Platinum – Brooke (vault, 2nd place 9.10, beam, 2nd place 9.00, floor, 1st place 9.70 & all-around, 1st place 36.10), and Grace (vault, 3rd place 9.00, bars, 1st place 9.00, floor, 2nd place 9.50, & all-around, 3rd place 35.60).
