ACC volleyball players earn all-conference honors
ALPENA — Several members of the Alpena Community College volleyball team were recently honored by the Michigan Community College Athletic Association for their play during the 2021 season.
Freshman Allie DeRocher was named to the all-Eastern Conference second team as well as the all-freshman team. DeRocher, an Alpena High graduate, recorded 89 kills on the season along with 16 aces, 32 digs and 28 blocks. She also led the Lumberjacks with a .250 attacking percentage.
Sophomore Alexis Pilarski (Alpena) and freshmen Kate Skiba (Alpena), Alyce Vermilya (Alpena), Arielle Vermilya (Johannesburg-Lewiston), and Avery Zipp (Charlevoix) all earned an all-Eastern Conference honorable mention.
As the team’s libero, Pilarski led Alpena with 193 digs. Skiba, one of ACC setters, recorded 227 assists, 68 digs, 10 aces, nine kills, and seven blocks.
Alyce Vermilya had 75 kills, 17 aces, 113 digs, and three blocks; Arielle Vermilya had 51 kills, seven assists, two aces, and 124 digs.
Zipp recorded 39 kills, nine assists, 12 aces, 34 digs, and nine blocked shots.
