POLICE BLOTTER: Driver hits deer, car catches fire, Montmorency County deputies respond

Montmorency County Inmates lodged in Alpena Jail: 10

Oct. 18

7:48 a.m.: A welfare check was requested on a Hillman Township resident. A deputy responded to the residence, the subject was found to be fine.

4:04 p.m.: A resident of Briley Township called to report that some kids were threatening her children, deputies responded and located the boys. They were warned to stay away from the residence.

6:25 p.m.: Deputies responded to a call referencing a possible assault in Hillman Township; officers separated the parties for the evening and cleared without incident.

7:31 p.m.: A welfare check was requested on a Briley Township subject; Officers responded to the residence and the subject was found to be fine.

10:05 p.m.: Hillman Fire and EMS along with law enforcement responded to the scene of a car that had caught fire after the driver hit a deer. The fire was extinguished prior to their arrival. No one was injured all units cleared without incident.

Oct. 19

12:48 a.m.: An officer responded to a deer vehicle accident on M-32 in Hillman Township; the deer was dispatched and the officer took the report.

1:03 a.m.: Deputies responded to a vehicle deer accident in Hillman Township on County Road 624. Driver and passengers were found to be fine. Officers took report.

7:37 a.m.: A deer vehicle crash was reported in Loud Township; an officer took a report.

3:50 p.m.: Officers responded to a dispute on Willowway Dr in Albert Township. An intoxicated male drove into a parked vehicle in a driveway and a dispute began. A 52-year-old male was taken into custody for OWI and possession of a concealed weapon.

9:32 p.m.: A Deputy responded to a dispute over vehicle keys between a mother and her son in Albert Township. The keys were returned and officers cleared at 10:24 p.m.:.

Oct. 21

4:34 p.m.: Officers responded to a property line dispute on Haas Rd in Avery Township. Subject was advised to contact a lawyer as this is a civil issue.

6:24 p.m.: A call came into the dispatch center to report a break-in to a residence in Albert Township; deputies responded and took the report. Investigation is ongoing.

Oct. 22

12:15 p.m.: An officer responded to a welfare check request on a resident of Briley Township, the officer spoke with neighbors and they stated the subject had left to do some errands.

12:34 p.m.: A call was made regarding an injured deer in Albert Township; officers responded to the scene to dispatch the injured deer.

12:48 p.m.: A resident of Albert Township called to report the window of a residence near theirs was broken out, an officer responded to the scene. Contact was made with the owner of the residence, they came to the scene and spoke with the officer.

5:16 p.m.: An erratic driver was called into dispatch; an officer initiated a traffic stop on the car. The driver was found to be fine, the officer cleared without incident.

7:02 p.m.: DNR officers received a report of a male shooting a deer out of a vehicle on Pleasant Valley Rd in Avery Township. The vehicle was located and the investigation is ongoing.

10:59 p.m.: Officers were requested for a welfare check of an elderly female on County Rd 612 in Albert Township. The female was located and was ok. Officers cleared at 11:18 p.m.

Oct. 23

5:31 a.m.: Dispatch received a complaint of a possible intoxicated person driving all over the road on M-32. The vehicle was located and the elderly male driver with dementia was reported missing out of Grand Traverse County. The Subject’s wife was notified and she came to pick him up.

3:47 p.m.: A resident in Hillman Township called to request the DNR, he had a badger stuck in a trap, DNR responded, set the badger free, with no injury to the badger or the DNR officers.

5:12 p.m.: A resident in Briley Township called to report a small cow and small dog were in her yard, the owner was located and she retrieved her animals. Deputies cleared the scene without incident.

Oct. 24

11:54 a.m.: A Deputy and Tri-Township Fire responded to a vehicle on fire on M-32. No one was injured. Prior to Fire units responding the fire was out. All units cleared without incident.
