Individuals, organizations, businesses, local governments, and schools in Northeast Michigan can apply for up to $100,000 to help fund projects that support land-based industries such as food and agriculture, forestry, mining, and tourism.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development today announced the opening of its 2022 grant cycle, offering up to a combined $1.74 million to the industries that support rural Michigan communities.
Rural Development Fund grants also fund energy, transportation, communications, water, and wastewater infrastructure that benefits rural communities.
Previous winning projects around Michigan included a beach revitalization, a trailhead expansion, business expansions to promote use of local produce, and the addition of docks at a town marina.
In 2019, grant recipients included Austin Brothers Beer Company, of Alpena, awarded $34,300 to purchase equipment.
Those interested in applying for the grant program should visit Michigan.gov/MDARDGrants. Applications, due Nov. 18, require at least three letters of support.
