FBI seeks public corruption tips
ALPENA ― Residents suspicious of corruption among local officials can now reach the FBI’s ear with the click of a mouse. The FBI Detroit Division this week launched an email address to allow the public to report suspected public corruption to FBI special agents, the branch office announced on Wednesday.
Residents can email MichiganCorruption@fbi.gov to share information about potentially corrupt behavior by any local, state, or federal government worker, including suspicions that person conducted an official action in exchange for money, goods, or services or accepted a bribe or kickback for personal gain.
Public corruption also includes lack of appropriate action, such as not enforcing or imposing certain local regulations.
Many FBI investigations start with a tip from the public, according to the FBI.
Tipsters can also share information by calling 800-CALL-FBI or visiting tips.fbi.gov.
