ALPENA -- A map recently enhanced by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Environment makes it easy to find collection locations for solid and liquid medications, including controlled medications, right from a smartphone or computer.
An interactive map, available at Michigan.gov/EGLEDrugDisposal, allows the user to zoom to any location in the state to find the nearest drop-off location, offering contact information and details about what each location accepts.
The map displays 12 medication take-back locations in Northeast Michigan, along with the Alpena Resource Recovery Facility, which accepts needles at a cost of $1.25 per pound from Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Presque Isle residents.
Anyone wishing to add a drug take-back location to the map can find a submission form on the website, which also offers video and print resources explaining drug disposal.
