Alcona schools close over staff shortage

LINCOLN — Alcona Community Schools will be closed at least on Monday because of a staff shortage, the district announced on its Facebook page today.

District officials canceled classes for Monday and said they could cancel classes on additional days this week.

“The district will evaluate options tomorrow and communicate plans for the remainder of the week as soon as possible,” the district’ Facebook post said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the staffing shortage.

The state on Sept. 27 reported a coronavirus outbreak involving 12 students in the district. The outbreak affected Alcona Middle School and Alcona High School.

The same day, the state reported outbreaks at Thunder Bay Junior High School and Alpena High School. On Oct. 4, the state reported at outbreak at Rogers City Elementary School.
