ALPENA ― A police officer pulled a man from a burning house in Alcona County late Wednesday night, Michigan State Police reported today.
Arriving at a house on Swede Road in Caledonia Township around midnight, Trooper Jacob Strong of the Alpena Post discovered one corner of the house engulfed in flames.
Knowing two people were trapped inside, Strong entered, discovering a woman trying to pull her husband, a hospice patient, off of his hospital bed.
As the ground floor of the house filled with heavy smoke and flames spread, Strong helped the wife move her husband from the bed and out of the house.
Deputies from the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office, waiting outside, helped the husband down the front steps.
