GOVERNMENT ROUNDUP: Alpena Municipal Council approves goose hunt

∫ At its Aug. 16 meeting the Alpena Municipal Council approved a customer appreciation and family fun day for RE/MAX New Horizons on September 26, 2021, at the Mich-e-ke-wis warming shelter.

The council also approved the goose management hunt on Sept. 9, 16, and 23.

City Attorney Bill Pfeifer delivered the first reading of Ordinance 21-462, which is an amendment to the City of Alpena Zoning Ordinance Articles 2, 3, 5, and 7.

The council also voted to approve the travel lift operation and winter storage service agreement with All Marine.

The council voted to approve a deal with Blarney Castle of Alpena to supply and deliver recreation gas and diesel fuel for the City of Alpena Marina for the mark-up price of $0.175 per gallon plus the base price at the time of delivery.

The council also voted to accept Councilmember Amber Hess’ resignation effective August 20, 2021. Hess is moving out of the city.

∫ At a recent meeting the Alpena County Board of Commissioners approved Policy #IV-17 Found Recovered Discarded Syringes and/or Needles, as presented.

The board also voted to approve the Alpena Recycling Board to lease the county-owned lots 22, 23, and 24 in place of lots 7 through 9 for the new Alpena Resource Recovery Facility proposed at property near the Alpena County Regional Airport.

The board voted to approve billing the Fairboard quarterly instead of monthly through the year except for fair week.

The board also voted to hire the selected candidate as a part-time 911 dispatcher.

The board approved lateral pay for the three sheriff’s office employees and also voted to modify the structure of the Alpena County Home Improvement Program in a manner that will no longer require the employment of a full-time manager as of Sept. 9.

The board voted to approve the 2021-22 Secondary Road Patrol Grant Application (10.01.21/09.30.22) for the Sheriff’s Office in the amount of $96,749 with an organizational match of $27,744 and a county match of $69,005.

The commissioners also voted to approve the Thunder Bay Junior High Police Liaison contract with the Alpena Public Schools and Alpena Township. Each will share a third of the cost of this position with the county and pay $26,443 annually. The sheriff’s office will bill on a quarterly basis.
