Police capture twice-escaped fugitive

LEWISTON ― A Montmorency County man who fled police twice is once again behind bars, according to police.
Caden Schanck, 19, of Lewiston, escaped police custody around 10 a.m. on Aug. 22 while receiving medical treatment at MidMichigan Medical Center-West Branch.
Schanck was lodged at the Ogemaw County Jail on three felony charges out of Oscoda County at the time of his escape.
Later that day, a Michigan State Trooper from the Alpena Post encountered and attempted to apprehend Schanck, who resisted arrest and escaped again.
An overnight search by Alpena Post troopers and Oscoda County Sheriff's Office officers failed to net Schanck. After receiving tips about Schanck's whereabouts, police finally caught up with and arrested the fugitive on Friday in Lewiston.
Schanck is lodged in the Ogemaw County Jail. He faces potential additional charges related to twice running from police, according to Oscoda County Sheriff Kevin Grace.
