ALPENA — Police nabbed an Alpena man caught on surveillance tape stealing cartfuls of merchandise from the Alpena Walmart, the Michigan State Police reported on Tuesday.
The store reported the thefts to the police in May, when a store security employee showed police video footage of a man identified as Dustin David Gougeon, 29, loading items in a shopping cart on multiple occasions and leaving without paying.
In four trips to the store in two months, Gaugeon stole more than $1,000 in merchandise, according to police.
The Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant for Gaugeon’s arrest on Aug. 7. On Saturday, an MSP trooper saw Gaugeon standing alongside M-32 near Bagley Street in Alpena and arrested him.
Gaugeon was arraigned today in Alpena’s 88th District Court, charged with first-degree retail fraud as a habitual offender.
