HILLMAN — For nearly the past two decades, the Hillman football program has been the most consistent team in the area.

A transition to eight-player football three years hasn’t slowed down the Tigers as they will enter another season intent on extending their cherished playoff streak to 16 years in a row.

Last year, Hillman suffered its first losing season since 2005, but did manage to win a playoff game.

With 10 seniors returning this season — half of the Tigers’ roster — head coach Cody Allen has high hopes for his team this year.

“We are going to rely on the senior leadership that we do have this year and most of them are returning players,” Allen said.

Sean Henigan is a senior that will see time at a variety of positions from quarterback, running back and wide receiver. Owen Moulton will anchor the Tigers defense at a linebacker position.

Jeff Klein came on strong at the end of last year and will get plenty of touches at a running back and wide receiver positions.

“We have a lot of depth at the skill positions. We have some really talented players coming back and we’re just trying to get better every day and be the best we can,” Allen said. “We have a lot of depth, so the kids are out here competing every day and I think that will ultimately make us better.”

AJ Jones will also likely see time under center. Jones and Henigan each provide different dynamics from the quarterback position and both split time last year, which may be the case again this season.

Henigan, Moulton and freshman Caleb Hiveley will each form a talented linebacking trio for the Tigers. Sebastian Greene also returns and will play a major role in the defensive front for Hillman.

“The first goal that we have when we sit down at camp is to make the playoffs and continue that playoff streak which will be the 16th year in a row if we make it, which is a pretty big accomplishment,” Allen said. “The playoff streak is something that started when I was playing and I want to prepare these kids so they can keep it going. We are built off of hard work and dedication to the program. Every kid that comes out knows what to expect and knows what coaches and other players expect. This is the way the culture was built when I played and it’s my goal to continue this culture and maintain a competitive and winning tradition here in Hillman.”
