ALPENA — Military aircraft in need of shelter from Tropical Storm Henri found refuge at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center on Saturday.
National Guardsmen from Rhode Island flew five C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft, worth $14 million apiece, to the CRTC to avoid the storm’s 60-mile-per-hour winds, according to a news release from the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
The aircraft will remain at the CRTC as the slow-moving storm batters the Northeast, the release said.
In 2020, Rhode Island and Delaware Air National Guard aircraft sought shelter in Alpena from Tropical Storm Isaias.
