All this, and more, can be found at the Montmorency County 4-H Fair, which is being held through Saturday at the fairgrounds in Atlanta.

Fair President Debbie Klein said locals are excited the fair is back, after it wasn’t held last year.

“I’ve talked to so many people,” Klein said. “They’re so glad we’re having a fair this year. I think people are just ready to get out and go do stuff.”

The fair features a carnival, 4-H events, leatherworkers and blacksmiths, among other things.

The Montmorency County Fair is subject to 4-H rules, and earlier this year 4-H was unsure if it was going to allow fairs to run. Klein said that the fair board met virtually until June, just in case the fair was green lit.

“We decided that we were just going to go ahead, because if we didn’t get our ducks in a row and they said we could have [a fair], we wouldn’t be ready,” Klein said.

4-H-specific events have been happening since Monday, when the animals were moved in and livestock was weighed.

Some ribbons have already been awarded, but the rabbit and beef judging is set for Thursday at 9 and 10 a.m., and the dairy judging will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. The livestock auction will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Friday and Saturday are the biggest days at the fair, according to Klein.

Friday will feature the Bump & Run at 7 p.m. in the grandstands. Saturday will see the mud bog, mud drags, and mega truck show at 6 p.m. Both events will be $5 for 5-12 year olds, $10 for teens and adults.

Those who wish to attend the fair can find more information on Facebook by searching Montmorency County 4H Fair Official Group in their Facebook group.
