Bilbey wins 2 state titles; 8 from Alcona earn all-state honors

HUDSONVILLE — Alcona High senior Lily Bilbey went 2-for-3 at Saturday’s Division 4 state track and field finals, winning state championships in the 100 meter and 200 dash.

Bilbey, who previously earned all-state finishes in both events as a freshman and sophomore, won the 100 dash in 12.51 seconds and won the 200 dash in 26.28 seconds.

She also finished second in the 400 dash (59.33).

Bilbey’s titles highlighted a successful day all-around for both Alcona track teams. Brielle Keyser earned all-state honors in the girls discus with an eighth place finish (98-10); Kelsey Hansen was second in the girls shot put (36-0 1/2); Zach Stephenson was eighth in the boys pole vault (11-6); Jacob Sytek was eighth in the boys 400 dash (53.13) and Alcona’s boys 800 relay team of Sytek, Gavin Walker, Chris Barnes and Nick Rasmussen finished fourth (1:33.11), while also breaking a school record.

Hansen was also 11th in the girls long jump (15-3 1/2); Rasmussen was 22nd in the boys 100 dash (12.17) and 15th in the 200 dash (24.07); Walker was 19th in the 200 dash (24.60) and the team of Stephenson, Barnes, Walker and Sytek was 20th in the 1,600 relay (3:50.65).

Onaway’s Madilyn Crull earned all-state honors in the high jump (5th, 5-0) and Shelby Woiderski finished sixth in the girls 100 dash (13.37). Onaway’s 400 relay team of Crull, Gavi Woiderski, Shelby Woiderski and Lainey Shimel finished 15th (55.38).

Fairview’s Trace Juergens finished 14th in the 300 hurdles (43.60)

In the Division 1 finals, Alpena’s Cooper Bright finished 11th in the boys 400 dash (50.20) and Madi Szymanski finished 14th in the girls 3,200 run (11:53.64)
